Defining the Role of Government

As I would with any legislation pushing a selective moral agenda into our homes, I do not support a constitutional amendment that defines a marriage as between a man and a woman for many reasons.

  • As with most people, my marriage is a very personal relationship between me and my wife.  It is the relationship that defines my family and is treasured in the solitude of our house.  I cannot think of anything more intruding than the federal government defining this relationship for me, my wife or my children based on a government dictated “moral” perspective.  The Republican Party used to be about small government and the power of the individual.  However, this legislation has shown how far the Republican Party has digressed.  It is putting the government at the center of our personal lives for no other reason than enforcing a selective social viewpoint.
  • The Constitution of the United States is a sacred document that defines our nation.  We need to respects its significance in the world and not use it as an instrument of today’s divisive politics.
  • With a war in Iraq, Islamic extremists preaching our destruction, large fiscal deficits, a cumbersome tax code, foreign oil dependence, an epidemic of political incompetence . . . . is this really what you want our politicians focused on?  We need to focus on what is important to our country and our public well being.  It is time to move on.
